Canon Info

Canon Name: Zeke von Genbu! Bringer of Chaos! Crown Prince Ozychlyrus Brounev Tantal!
Canon Age: 25

Canon: Xenoblade Chronicles 2

Character Summary: Zeke is simultaneously an edgelord idiot and one of the most mature and sensible characters of XC2.

When Zeke isn't taking things seriously, he's ridiculous -- using unbelievably exaggerated body language, corny phrasings and dialogue that sounds like he's a Team Rocket reject, and calling himself "the Zekeinator" and screwing around. When Nia and Rex first meet him, he goes to every effort to sound like a cliche villain, introduces himself like he's the greatest thing alive, then promptly loses his pet turtle and has to swipe it back from the heroes (while overtly failing to actually grab the person he was allegedly there to steal). During all of this he is on a serious and important mission, mind.

All this while he practically radiates enjoyment of life, and comes off as remarkably easygoing when he's not panicking about his missing turtle or complaining that someone is manhandling it. The second time he meets the group, he goes from objecting to the nickname 'Shellhead' to answering to it reflexively in the space of a minute; the third time they meet, he cheerfully embraces it. He claims, ridiculously, that his eyepatch conceals the ultimate power of the Eye of Shining Justice (which, uh, it does, but it's still ridiculous). Just seeing this side of Zeke probably convinces a person that only thanks to Pandoria's presence has he ever accomplished anything or even survived.

When he's taking things seriously, however? Gone is that goofy attitude, replaced by the confidence that comes not just from being a very skilled Driver, but also conviction and unshakable faith in his own beliefs. The third time he meets the group he drops all of them with one attack, stunning them with a power on the level of the strongest Driver they'd so far met. He carries a core conviction, that his homeland of Tantal is making a huge mistake by embracing isolationist policies, and most of his life has been spent defying his father -- running away from home, stealing Pandoria's Core Crystal, and surviving as a Driver and a man rather than a Prince. He never asks for special treatment because of his birthright, to the point that he's worked countless odd jobs and almost died in the course of his adventures. And he knows he's done the right thing, which is why he has both the confidence in his serious times and the love of life in his goofy ones. In times of need he can shed the mantle of Zeke von Genbu and step into a charged political meeting as the sensible and reasonable Crown Prince of Tantal -- but he's clearly far happier and more comfortable as Zeke.

Of course, 'serious' for Zeke can also be pretty goofy. He very seriously proposes changing his self-given title to "Chaotic Bringer of Chaos", and very seriously suffers actual agony when Pyra manages to brutally insult the idea. On the other hand, though, he says flat-out in fairly easygoing terms that he's never killed a fellow human, and that doing so just proves a man is completely weak. (He says this to the Praetor's face, no less.)

His closest canon tie is to his Blade, Pandoria, and their partnership goes a long way towards showing every aspect of his nature. The two bicker like siblings (or a long-term couple), with Pandoria cheerfully picking on him whenever he deserves it, while at the same time they can both pose and even move in perfect sync. His devotion to his partner is without question.

Last but certainly not least: Zeke is UNFATHOMABLY unlucky. His first three appearances him feature a cliff collapsing beneath him, a rolling boulder bashing him into the stratosphere, and a broken fence dumping him into the Cloud Sea. Gameplay stats even back that up.

AU Info

AU Name: Zeke V. Genbu
Age: 25 (still)

AU History:
  • Zeke had the dubious distinction of becoming a chuunibyou at the age of seven or so -- the sort of idiot kid who runs around like they're out of a manga. This would have been less weird if he'd patterned himself as some sort of Dreamer, but nope! He was all about melodramatic superpowers!
  • Turns out, though, that personality is really good for Awakening! At the age of thirteen, Zeke encountered a Nightmare attempting to feed on his Figment and immediately kicked its ass with his awesome chuuni powers! He always said he had them, after all. Why shouldn't he be able to?
  • Displaying more common sense than anyone would ever expect, Zeke reached out to and joined the Dreamer Union, and worked for a few years under a mentor (as yet undefined, maybe some other character will take on the role retroactively!) to lean the business of being a Dreamer. By the same token, he joined Promised Morning Academy.
  • After graduating both from mentoring and the Academy, Zeke continued his work with the DU on the field, but more importantly, by continuing his education. Thanks to the DU's sponsorship, he pursued a degree in political science, then got employment in government services related to Dreamers (/waves hands vaguely). Though his performance in the field suffered a bit during this time, he's now positioned to help Dreamers out in the waking world as well.
  • Settled into his job and needing the excitement, Zeke has now sought out more active Dreamer duty in the DU, especially for mentorship and assistance.

AU Personality: Zeke remains the most radiant of idiots when he's not trying -- goofing around, having fun, and absolutely loving life. Much as in canon, his attitude belies his actual experience and competence, and again much as in canon, he isn't putting on a front or purposefully hiding that competence beneath a mask of idiocy; they're just two connected parts of him. As irreverent and irrelevant as he might seem, he's living his life according to his convictions and commitments.

He has a total dedication to the DU, and a similar commitment to getting all those dark magical girls out there to maybe lighten up a bit? Try to enjoy life a little? Life is, after all, worth living, and worth enjoying -- whether as a Dreamer or a normal person. Going all dark and broody as a Dreamer is understandable but not helpful to anyone.

Unlike canon, Zeke does not and has never had a close and dear partner who enables him, inspires him, grounds him, and deflates him like Pandoria did. As a consequence, he comes off a little bit more unstable and less grounded than canon Zeke, and in some respects is a good deal lonelier than his OU personality. This lack also contributes heavily to his desire to look after other Dreamers and mentor those in need. Deep down he wants a partner like that, but he's written it off with a shrug and goes about his life without worrying about that desire.

Zeke has also never had to cut himself loose like his canon version ran away from his home kingdom, though, so that benefits him a great deal. Instead of the deep conflict he feels having to run away from his homeland in the hopes to set it on the right path one day, Zeke has been supported by the DU for years, and believes in their mission and purpose. This is why AU-Zeke can hold down a sensible, mundane government job; he is neither rebelling nor fighting against the system, and thus can live a more banal life so long as he gets his kicks in the Dream Sphere. He's also prepared to perhaps step into DU administration itself someday.

    Zeke remains UNBELIEVABLY unlucky.

Other AU Changes: He still has an accent. He has no reason to have an accent. He just started talking like that in his chuuni days and doesn't even remember how to stop any more.

    Dreamer Info

    Dreamer Title: Dreamer Chaosbringer
Appearance: Like Zeke from XC2, except also wearing a skirt.

    Archetype: Striker

    Power Considerations:
  • Electricity: Just like it sounds! Starts with adding electricity to attacks, can eventually upgrade into long-ranged or wide-area attacks.
  • Mobility: The ability to transit a short distance quickly. Not quite a flash step at the lower levels as he still needs to cross the intervening space, just very quickly; it makes up for the limitation by being more flexible, such as including jumping and climbing
  • Indestructible: Unusual for a Striker and quite possibly due to his terrible luck. Zeke takes less damage from any source of harm.
  • Weapon Shift: Zeke can change the shape of his Dreamer weapon.

    RP Sample: Whabam, TDM!
